What is simulation?
The word “Simulation” has been pretty popular, and would be able to be translated into Japanese as “模擬実験simulated experiment”. Simulation is to analyze and project what happens by experimenting with a device, which is able to simulate problems, existing or non-existing.
The difference with other problem solution methodologies is that simulation has temporal axes. Computer simulation is performed with a device developed with a computer, and tools for simulation are called “Simulator.” The device for experiment is called “Model.”
Necessity of Simulation
Simulation is effective for the followings:
- Difficult to be projected because of problem complexity
- Too much time and/or expenses required to try with an actual system
- Too dangerous to try with an actual system
- No actual system available (still under planning)
- Comparison of more than one solutions
